SHEEPGATE SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS
BY MAKING AN ENTRY AT SHEEPGATE EQUESTRIAN YOUR ARE AGREEING TO ABIDE BY THE FOLLOWING RULES:-
It is compulsory for anyone mounted on a horse or pony at Sheepgate Equestrian to wear correct riding clothes, including a hard hat and correct footwear.BSI Standard hats or above is recommended. Anyone not complying with this rule will be asked to dismount immediately.
The organisers accept no responsibility for any injury, damage or loss sustained by ponies, horses, spectators, competitors, their belongings or any property in their custody.
Vehicles, boxes and trailers are parked entirely at the owner’s risk.
The organisers retain the right to refuse any entry.
Any objections must be made to the Secretary within 30 minutes of the completion of the event, accompanied by a deposit of £20, which may be forfeited, if the objection is overruled.
The Judges decision is final.
The organisers reserve the right to cancel or amalgamate classes at their discretion.
All dogs must be kept on a lead.
Please do not muck out onto the parking area and pick up your droppings with the skips provided. Please dispose of your own litter in the bins provided.
Rider’s age taken as at 1st January, unless otherwise stated. Juniors not to have attained 17th Birthday.
The organiser’s request that horses and ponies that are not entered to compete are not exercised in the working in area unless prior permission has been given.
Lunging is allowed only by prior arrangement with organisers and people involved must respect others working in at all times.
Anyone entering classes at this show shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the rules and have signed the declaration on the entry form.
Prizes are awarded as follows:-
Minimum 6 starters – 1st prize awarded
7 – 12 starters - 1st & 2nd prize awarded
13 + starters - 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize awarded
Once a competitor has made an entry it is assumed that he intends to take part
unless he notifies the secretary to the contrary. Anyone withdrawing before the close of entries may transfer their entry to a later date. IT IS WITH REGRET THAT NO OTHER REFUNDS OR TRANSFER OF ENTRIES IS ALLOWED AT SHEEPGATE EQUESTRIAN.
16. All Dressage classes will be run under British Dressage Rules – see below.
17. Horses and ponies must not be left unattended while tied to the outside of a
lorry or trailer. Failure to abide by this rule will incur a £10 on the spot fine that
will be donated to RDA.
18. Anyone making a late entry will be liable for the full entry fee plus the late fee
once a time has been allocated to him or her. This will still apply even if they fail to participate. Bridle numbers will only be allocated once all fees have been paid upon arrival.
Any rider exercising a horse or pony at a show that is not intending to compete must contact sarah@sheepgate.co.uk or events@sheepgate.co.uk in advance to obtain permission.
OPEN SHOW RULES
The following rules are in additional to those numbered 1- 17.
*Colts and stallions may not be led by any juniors who have not attained their 14th Birthday before 1st January in the current year.
*Any pony stallion (not exceeding 138cms) or small breed M & M may not be ridden by juniors who have not attained their 12th Birthday before 1st January in the current year.
*Any stallion (exceeding 138cms) or large breed M & M may not be ridden by juniors who have not attained their 14th Birthday before 1st January in the current year.
*Young Handler, First Ridden and Lead Rein Classes – MARES and GELDINGS only.
* Junior Handlers must wear a safety hat that conforms to the current safety standard

DRESSAGE RULES
HAT RULE - All hats must be to the following standards. PAS 015, EN1384, BSEN1384, ASTM F1163 (2004) with SEI mark, SNELL E2001
All Preliminary and Novice tests to be ridden in a snaffle bridle with a cavesson, flash or drop noseband. A simple double bridle may be used for Elementary and above.
Bitguards, martingales, side or running reins are not allowed during tests or working in. Boots and bandages may only be worn during working in.
It is customary practice to pass left to left while working in and avoid halting on the outer track. Lateral work will take priority.
Gloves of a light colour MUST be worn.
Spurs, correctly fitted may be worn.
Tests may be called. Use of voice during the test will be penalised with the loss of two marks.
It is requested that any helpers or grooms etc. do not stand in the working in area.
CHAMPIONSHIP RULES
No whips and no commanders in Championship classes.
